The rehabilitation team can include rehabilitation nurses, kinesiotherapists and massage therapists. In order for rehabilitation to be successful, the physiatrist and/or sports medicine doctor work in close cooperation with orthopaedic-traumatologists, neurologists, cardiologists, surgeons, psychologists or psychotherapists among others.

Frequently asked questions

You should book a consultation if:

  • You have been ill and want to get your life back on track, strengthen your health and speed up the recovery process.

You want to restore the normal body function after trauma and/or surgery (joint replacement surgery, vascular surgery, bone fractures etc., stroke, heart attack etc.).

You suffer from headaches, neck and back pain.

You feel the need to improve the overall condition of your body.

The doctor will listen to your complaints, assess your health history and, if necessary, order laboratory or instrumental tests and review their results. Having established your diagnosis, the doctor will discuss possible treatment methods and develop a rehabilitation program consisting of non-pharmacological methods.

  • If you are bothered by chronic shoulder, knee joint, ankle, shin, feet or back pain which increases after physical workload.
  • If you have undergone knee, shoulder or other joint surgery and would like to resume your usual training schedule as quickly as possible.
  • If you experience extrasystoles or discomfort in the chest area during or after physical workload.
  • If you have decided to become more physically active or get involved in sports in order to improve your health or reduce weight.
  • If you are taking medicines and would like to do sports.
  • If you are a professional athlete and would like to get a consultation on food supplements.
  • If you would like to consult about a training programme.
  • If you get very tired at work or when training.
  • If you are getting ready for a sports event, e.g. running a marathon, going on a ski trip, mountain climbing.
  • If you need an international or national health certificate for participation in a sports event etc.

The sports medicine doctor can prescribe a complex treatment consisting of corrective exercises, physical workload, soft tissue mobilisation, stretching of passive muscles, pain alleviation techniques and physiotherapy.

The sports medicine doctor orders all necessary tests, performs preventative health checks for people involved in sports, body composition analysis, functional aerobic capacity testing and lactate tests as well as posture examination for establishing the patient’s physical capacity, and then develops a suitable physical workload programme. The physical workload programme is prepared on the basis of the test results, the patient’s health condition and expectations, and incorporates recommendations on the frequency, intensity, duration, type (e.g. running, swimming, weight training etc.) and volume of the workload.
