Deviated Septum Surgery (septoplasty)
Nasal septum surgery – septoplasty is the only treatment for the correction of a deviated nasal septum, restoration of a straight nasal septum and for better airflow through the nose.
The surgery is recommended for the following:
- nasal obstruction/congestion (difficulty in breathing through the nose),
- frequently reoccurring sinusitis;
- nasal bleeding, when a deviated nasal septum interferes with the treatment;
- headache caused by a deviated septum.
Treatment: Before recommending deviated nasal septum surgery, the ENT doctor will examine your nose and assess whether the surgery is essential. If needed endoscopic examination equipment can be used for the nasal examination.
After the surgery: Patients can usually return home on the next day after the surgery. The doctor’s recommendations should be followed for 2 weeks after surgery to ensure a speedy recovery
You will notice a marked improvement in your symptoms once the bruising has subsided; this generally occurs approximately 2-3 weeks after the surgery.
