Our Centre offers 3 types of vaccines, Gardasil 9, Silgard, and Cervarix, that protect against HPV type of viruses, which are the most common cause of cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer prevention

Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women under 45 years old. Any woman regardless of her age or family history can contract cervical cancer.

It has been proven that in 99.77% of cases, cervical cancer is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is usually transmitted sexually. Although it is rare, HPV can also be passed from the mother to the child during a vaginal delivery or from sex organs directly through manual touch.

Vaccines that can protect against HPV

A bivalent vaccine Cervarix protects from the diseases caused by HPV types 16 and 18.

These are the types associated with the biggest risk of causing cervical cancer. The vaccine is suitable for girls from 9 years of age.

A quadrivalent vaccine, Silgard, protects from the diseases caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18.

These diseases are diseases of the female sex organs (cervix, genitals, and vagina), premalignant anal lesions, male and female genital warts, and cervical or anal cancer.

The vaccine guarantees an impressive 10-year protection from the previously listed diseases. Silgard triggers the production of antibodies specific to the respective types of the virus, and clinical research has proven that it protects women from 16 to 45 years of age and men from 16 to 26 years of age from the diseases caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18. The vaccine also triggers the production of virus-specific antibodies in children and teenagers from 9 to 15 years of age.

More information about the vaccine can be found at www.viskastavorankose.lt.

A nonavalent vaccine, Gardasil 9, protects from the diseases caused by HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, or 58.

The immune system (natural defence mechanism of the body) of a person vaccinated with Gardasil9 starts producing antibodies against 9 HPV types, thus protecting the patient from the diseases caused by the virus: diseases of the female sex organs (cervix, genitals, and vagina), premalignant anal lesions and anal cancer, and male and female genital warts. The vaccine is suitable for children and teenagers from 9 years of age and for adults.

Risk groups

Women over 30 are at the biggest risk of contracting cervical cancer. Therefore, women who have an HPV infection and are over 30 must have regular check-ups.

If the diagnosis is confirmed in time, there is an almost 100% chance that the treatment of the cervical cancer in its early stages is successful.

Diagnostics

Diagnostics of women over 30 is carried out following this scheme:

DNA papTM:
Hybrid Capture 2 HPV DNA-test + PAP smear

HPV negative (-)

HPV negative (-)

HPV positive (+)

HPV positive (+)

PAP negative (-)

PAP positive (+)

PAP negative (-)

PAP positive (+)

No risk.

The next check-up should be done after 3 years.

The follow-up exam in 6-12 months (PAP smear test> III D: consultation on dysplasia, colposcopy).

The follow-up exam in 6-12 months (HPV is a high-risk test, if positive 2 times: consultation on dysplasia, colposcopy).

Move to the following stages of the diagnostic process immediately (consultation on dysplasia, colposcopy).

If you are over 30 and you have not undergone the tests above or they were performed more than 2 years ago, schedule an appointment at the obstetrician-gynaecologist’s of the Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Centre to get more information about the tests and have them prescribed.
